South Island Golf Itinerary

Day 1.

Welcome to The south island of New Zealand!

We suggest flying into Christchurch where you will collect a rental vehicle (SUV/MPV) and transfer to Terrace Downs. Sitting at the foot of the South Island's Mount Hutt, the luxury Terrace Downs High Country Retreat offers an exceptional destination to stay and play golf, as well as a miriad of activities - from salmon fishing, jet-boating, hiking, clay-pigeon shooting to biking.

Guests may choose from villa suites or fairway chalets, both of which feature spacious open plan living and dining areas with gas fires, fully equipped kitchens and laundries, and enjoy incomparable views over the golf course towards the Southern Alps.

The Clubhouse restaurant offers superb dining accompanied by internationally acclaimed wines. Other facilities include spa pools, tennis courts and mountain bikes.

Terrace Downs. Villa.

Duration: 1 night.

Includes: Accommodation, full breakfast.

Day 2.

Golf at Terrace downs.

This breathtaking 6,440 metre par 72 course is set on two plateaus at the foot of Mount Hutt and alongside the Canterbury Plains. Offering a distinctly high country experience, players are surrounded by numerous lakes and gorges fringed with native tussock grass. Situated on a stunning 500 acre resort property, Terrace Downs provides a little bit of everything for everybody, from beginners to professionals. Short tricky par 3s through to long challenging par 5s all enjoy unrivalled views at this fabulous mountain golf course, with sand-based greens making it a year-round attraction.

After golf, you will tranfser to Queenstown - a 5 hour drive, or 90 minute helicopter journey. On arrival into Queenstown you will check into Matakauri Lodge.

Matakauri Lodge offers stunning views from every angle of the Remarkable, Cecil and Walker Peak mountain ranges. Facilities include a full service luxury spa, swimming pool and a fully equipped fitness centre. All facilities offer a perfect complement to the eleven luxurious guest suites and 8 outlying cottages. Three suites are located within the main lodge building itself, all offering their own private porch, bedroom with sitting area and open fireplace, walk-in wardrobe and bathroom. The suites are nestled in a native forest overlooking Lake Wakatipu and the mountain panorama.

Matakauri Lodge - Lodge Suite.

Duration: 4 nights

Includes: Accommodation, pre dinner drinks, gourmet three course a la carte dinner, full breakfast, complimentary minibar (excluding liquor and wine), and full use of all lodge facilities.

Day 3.

Jacks Point Golf course

Opened in late 2008, this extraodinary golf course has well and truly put Queenstown on the map as a single point golfing destination. Jacks Point adds a new dimension to golf in the region with the already established courses of Millbrook, Kelvin Heights, Arrowtown and the exclusive privately owned Hills golf course.

Steve Williams, Tiger Woods caddy recently stated, 'It's obviously a great piece of property but that doesn't always mean a good course. But this is well thought out and a real asset for New Zealand golf.' The golf course itself has a backdrop of 2300 vertical metres of the 'razorback' - famously known as the Remarkables mountain range. This makes the course one of the most dramatic in the world, yet along with that comes a course which is of championship standard, offering a challenging and unforgettable experience.

Return to Matakauri Lodge after golf for a relaxing afternoon.

Day 4.

Day off golf - milford sound heli-flight.

The Fiordlands at Milford Sound offer some of the most stunning scenery in the world. Your private guide and helicopter (EC130) from Fly NZ, will collect you from Matakauri Lodge and take you on one of the most incredible journeys of your life.

Discover a labyrinth of valleys and mountains as you fly west over the Main Divide of the Southern Alps. See Lake Te Anau and follow the Milford Track past the Sutherland Falls on this extensive tour to Milford Sound. Walk through native rainforest, for a perfect photo opportunity. You will fly along the fiord to a seal colony or remote beach on the isolated coast of Fiordland. A glacier landing on the return flight will enable you to fill the ice bucket for your champagne luncheon at a goldminer's cottage hidden in the mountains.

On returning to Matakauri Lodge, you may have the energy to play a round of golf at Arrowtown Golf Club - one of our "hidden gems" golf course in New Zealand. Arrowtown offers any level of golfer an array of challenges. Short holes meander through steep sided, rocky crevases. Inviting raised tee-blocks often tempt players into taking it on! But watch out, Arrowtown is a course that can very easily bite you, however it offers an extremely fun round of golf.

Day 5.

Golf at The Hills - Arrowtown.

Michael Hill's private golf course on the outskirts of Arrowtown, New Zealand was designed by Darby Partners and opened in 2007 to host the New Zealand Open. Set over 500 acres of land across a glacial valley, The Hills is home to an incredible array of flora including native brown top grasses and wild native mountain tussocks.

Sculptures crafted by New Zealand artists compliment the natural beauty of the course's lakes, waterways and wetland areas. Winter snow and frost conditions provide the ideal climate for the finest grasses suited to the modern day game of golf.

The award winning clubhouse is designed to seamlessly integrate with the landscape, with less than a quarter of the building visible above ground. The innovative roof is grass covered while the large floor to ceiling windows and covered deck provide a grandstand view of the 18th green. The elegant and contemporary spa therapy rooms offer a total experience where members and visitors are nurtured and pampered by a professional team of therapists.

Return after golf to Matakauri Lodge to enjoy your final night in Queenstown.

Day 6.

Transfer Home.

Transfer to Queenstown airport where you will board a domestic flight to return to Auckland or Christchurch, from where you will meet your international departure.
