The Kinloch Golf Course, Lake Taupo, New Zealand

Jack Nicklaus’ first Signature course in New Zealand, The Kinloch Club, was ranked in the Top 100 in the world outside the US by Golf Digest Magazine in 2012. It has added another must visit golf course to the New Zealand landscape. Kinloch immediately made an impact on the International scene by being rated by Travel and Leisure Golf Magazine as the best new course in 2007 outside North America. The course takes advantage of the natural terrain created by the supervolcanic Taupo eruption of 26,000 years ago, which deposited massive amounts of pumice across a wide area. This allowed Nicklaus to build a course with Scottish links characteristics creating remarkable undulating fairways and greens. This combination comes together in beautiful surroundings producing one of Jack Nicklaus’ proudest Signature Course. Kinloch is situated in the centre of The North Island of New Zealand, 3 hours drive south from Auckland and 4 hours drive from Wellington. The village itself is nestled on the Northern Shore of Lake Taupo, only 15 minutes drive from Taupo town and 50 minutes from Rotorua.

Wairakei International

This former Golf Digest ranked golf course is one of New Zealand’s most established and favourite for many local golfers. The par 72 layout is set in 450 acres of gently rolling countryside. Its parkland characteristics feature 108 large bunkers, magnificent tree-lined fairways and large plateau greens, all bordered by dense pine forest. In 2010 a plan to create a wildlife sanctuary was completed, including the erection of a 2 metre high electrical rodent proof fence which surrounds the whole property. Kiwi have been released along with a number of exotic native birds. A new professional shop and driving range have also been completed in late 2010, bringing Wairakei International right back up to one of the very best golfing facilities in the country. Wairakei International is located just north of the town of Taupo, a 3 hour drive from Auckland, 4 hours from Wellington and only 45 minutes from Rotorua. Rotorua offers International flight connections through Sydney, making the region an excellent entry point for a short break golf trip.

The Farm at Cape Kidnappers Golf Course

The Farm at Cape Kidnappers was opened in late 2007 to international acclaim. The Farm is literally situated on one of the most stunningly spectacular places on the planet. Comfort and ease are at a premium, with each room taking on a character of its own while harkening back to the rural feeling of the New Zealand sheep station and wine country. Spacious cottages, each with breathtaking views, open to large porches overlooking a stunning Pacific panorama. The Lodge offers two dining rooms and a covered loggia featuring a gourmet à la carte menu. Other rooms within the Lodge include a lounge/living room, library which can be used as a private meeting room, intimate sitting room, wine cellar tasting room, and a computer room. The Farm at Cape Kidnappers is located a 30 minute transfer from Napier Airport. There are direct daily flights to Napier from all major centres in New Zealand. This wonderfully dramatic golf course, set high on craggy cliffs some 140 metres above the sea, was designed by American Tom Doak of Renaissance Golf Design. Arguably one of the most spectacular sites in the world, the course in 2008 was described by The Daily Telegraph as the No.1 Golf Course in the World. It is also regularly ranked by the top ranking authorities in the Top 100 in the world. At Cape Kidnappers players may one minute be hitting shots over the tops of tea trees and then the next across a deep gully or along the edge of a deep ravine. Holes aptly named the Pirate’s Plank and the Widow’s Walk perhaps give you some indication of just how exhilarating this course is. Napier is located approximately a 1 hour 30 minute drive from Taupo or 4 hours from Wellington. There are direct daily flights to Napier from all major centres in New Zealand.

Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club

Considered the country's premier links course by many, Paraparaumu Beach was designed in 1949 by Australian Open champion Alex Russell, partner of the highly acclaimed course architect Dr Alistair McKenzie. The home course of Tiger Woods’s caddie, Steve Williams, it has played host to the New Zealand Open championship on 12 occasions, with Tiger Woods himself playing in the 2002 event. Laid out over naturally rolling topography, the well drained fairways, fierce rough and intimidating bunkers of this 5,919 metre par 71 course combine with coastal winds to create a truly challenging golfing experience. Paraparaumu Beach is located 45 minutes drive north of Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand. Direct flights from Auckland commence in October 2011 to Paraparaumu Beach airport, which is only a stones throw from the golf course.

Jacks Point Golf Course

Jacks Point is an extraodinary golf course that has well and truly put Queenstown on the golfing map. Jacks adds to the region alongside the already established courses of Millbrook, Kelvin Heights, Arrowtown and the exclusive Hills golf course. Steve Williams recently stated, 'It's obviously a great piece of property but that doesn't always mean a good course. But this is well thought out and a real asset for New Zealand golf. The golf course itself has a backdrop of 2300 vertical metres of the 'razorback' - famously known as the Remarkables mountain range. This makes the course one of the most dramatic in the world, yet along with that comes a course which is of championship standard, offering a challenging and unforgettable experience. Jacks Point is located by a 15 minute drive from the centre of Queenstown. Queenstown is accesible via direct flights from all major centres of New Zealand, as well as direct flights from Australia.

The Hills Golf Course

Michael Hill's private golf course on the outskirts of Arrowtown was designed by Darby Partners and opened in 2007 to host the New Zealand Open. Set over 500 acres of land across a glacial valley, The Hills is home to an incredible array of flora including native brown top grasses and wild native mountain tussocks. Sculptures crafted by New Zealand artists compliment the natural beauty of the course's lakes, waterways and wetland areas. The award winning Clubhouse is designed to seamlessly integrate with the landscape, with less than a quarter of the building visible above ground. A 25 minute drive from Queenstown beside the delightful village of Arrowtown. Queenstown is accessed by air from all major centres of New Zealand and also direct flights from Australia.

Dunalistair House :

Built in 2008 to strict architectural guidelines, Dunalistair House offers four luxurious ensuite bedrooms and expansive entertainment areas for up to 8 guests to relax in a holiday home with utmost privacy, comfort and a view which encapsulates the very phrase Jack Nicklaus used when he was creating The Kinloch Club - "Heaven on Earth". Situated overlooking the 3rd and 4th holes of The Kinloch Club with a unique and uninterrupted vantage point, Dunalistair House is the ultimate golfers getaway. It is the only home available to rent at this world class golf facility, and was awarded the Supreme Home of the Year in 2009 by the Judges at the Resene National Architectural Awards.

The testimonials of past guests at Dunalistair House speak for themselves about the experience of The Kinloch Club. "An amazing, challenging golf course"; "Gary thinks it’s the best course in New Zealand"; "The golf was fantastic"; "Heaven can't be this good"; "The most beautiful golf course I have ever seen." As Jack Nicklaus' only signature course in New Zealand, the opening in 2007 was greeted by immediate ranking by Travel & Leisure Golf as the Top New Course in the World outside North America.
